IF FIRST impressions are anything to go by, then Oxford has come up trumps.

No doubt like many a biker, we all love a nice pair of jeans that can be worn both on and off the bike; jeans that offer comfort and safety, but are not too bulky to look out of place down the local. In the past some jeans I have worn have either been too slim-fit for my taste, ride up, or are low-slung, hipster style, which I never like.

Not so the Straight Fit, 2 Year Aged jeans we have here. For the techies, they are constructed of triple stitched Armourlite 13.5oz denim interwoven with high tenacity polyamide yarn and CE armour. For the non techies, if you are looking for a pair of nice-fitting jeans with a high waist and a wide enough hem to comfortably go over a pair of boots, oh, and at a keen price point too, then look no further.

Armourlite is a highly durable denim that maintains a vintage look and softness, with two-way stretch added to aid mobility and comfort. These jeans are also impregnated with quick dry technology which helps draw perspiration and increases water repellency. Included is CE level 2 flexible knee and CE level 1 flexible hip armour, and features include belts loops, and a traditional five jean pockets design. I put an order in for my regular size, and they proved to be spot on. A good start, then.

I thought at first that the knee pads were a tad wide and bulky, but they soon sat well on the bike. I recently purchased from Knox a set of breathable, flexible armoured base layers with CE knee, hip and coccyx armour, giving me the option of removing the armour from the jeans if I so wish.

VERDICT: Authentic styling, a comfortable fit, a great price point, and they look good, too. What more could you ask for…
